I was wondering, is it realistic for a dancer to be represented by an agency without being classically trained first? I know it's better to be trained in many different styles but if a dancer is very adaptive and good at their particular style is it possible?

YES IT IS MOST OF THE DANCERS YOU SEE IN THESE VIDEOS ARE REPRESENTED AND THEY MAY HAVE NO TRAINING WHAT SO EVER... BUT BEING TRAINED IS A PLUS

I agree with adubz most dancers that are making a living off the game are not trained.

Just to throw my 2cents in, coming from a freestyle/bboy background, you don't have to be "classically" trained, but you should definitely be trained in picking up and executing choreography if thats what your interested in doing. Ive been able to work (freestyle and bboy jobs) and learn (choreography) as I go along, and I would have rather been doing both all along with what I know now, so the sooner you start taking classes if you don't already, the better.
Hope this was helpful.

thanx for this, cos a lot of times I also think about that, as my classic training is still very poor but I'm determined to dance professionally and well, really hope I can do it so reading this I get more confident
Seeing what I've seen so far I also think it is better to learn asap, as learning as much as you can and from new things can't be but good, but I also think there are many people who make it without that whole training and you see them dance and have no questions at all they deserve it!

I agree with all of these posts, I come from a semi trained background, but when I started taking dance seriously the first thing I learned was choreo was probably the most important feature a dancer could have and being able to match another persons swagger as well as moves are extremely important. even if you are behind in classical training and you may not even want more classical work its still good to take your technique classes to help your hiphop.
